Microsoft is urging everyone to upgrade to Windows 11, stating that free support for Windows 10 will conclude by October 2025.
This advice is due to the fact that Windows 10 will no longer receive patches or new features to fix bugs and security flaws. In spite of these warnings, it continues to reign supreme as the most-used software belonging to Microsoft across the world.
Jason Leznek, Principal Product Manager for Windows Servicing and Delivery, made a statement saying, “While we strongly recommend moving to Windows 11, we understand there are circumstances that could prevent you from replacing Windows 10 devices before the EOS date. Therefore, Microsoft will offer Extended Security Updates (ESU).”
It remains unclear how much this (ESU) plan costs. However, Microsoft has confirmed that users are able to purchase an annual subscription for security updates. This yearly plan is renewable for three years after subscribing.
“If you are an individual consumer or an organization who elects to continue using Windows 10 after support ends on October 14, 2025, you will have the option of enrolling your PC in the paid Extended Security Updates (ESU) program,” Microsoft confirmed.
At the moment, it remains unclear how much these security updates will cost after the deadline.
“The ESU program enables PCs to continue to receive Critical and Important security updates (as defined by the Microsoft Security Response Center) through an annual subscription service after support ends. More details including pricing will be provided at a later date.”
