Release: December 2, 2016

Knights of the Eternal Throne (KotET) is the sixth digital expansion for SWTOR. Continuing the single-player-focused storyline in the previous expansion, KotET has the Outlander taking on the forces belonging to Empress Vaylin, the daughter of Valkorian, the Eternal Sith Emperor.

This expansion saw the largest overhaul to the endgame progression system seen up until this point in SWTOR’s history in the form of Galactic Command. In addition, Uprisings are a new form of endgame content for players to participate in and receive various rewards.

Below is an overview of the new features introduced at the launch of the Knights of the Eternal Throne expansion:

  • Level cap increased (from 65 to 70).
  • New main quest storyline with replayable chapters on three difficulties (Story, Veteran, Master).
    • Chapter I: Wrath and Ruin
    • Chapter II: Run for the Shadows
    • Chapter III: Dark Reunions
    • Chapter IV: Where Dreams Die
    • Chapter V: Ascension
    • Chapter VI: The Dragon’s Maw
    • Chapter VII: Into the Void
    • Chapter VIII: End Times
    • Chapter IX: The Eternal Throne
  • Galactic Command:
    • A new endgame progression system in which players are rewarded with Command Experience Points (CXP) from nearly all activities in the game.
    • Acquiring CXP helps level up a player’s Command Rank. Each time a new Command Rank level is reached, players receive rewards in the form of an RNG loot crate (Command Crate).
    • Command Crates drop random items, but they include nearly every type of reward in the game, ranging from endgame gear, crafting schematics, reputation items, unique mounts and pets, command tokens, Jawa scraps, empty cosmetic weapons and gear, companion gifts, and chance cubes for Cartel Market items.
    • The best item that drops from Command Crates is set-bonus gear, which greatly boosts combat performance when combined with multiple pieces.
    • Command Rank level cap is 300, divided into four different tiers, with each tier giving better rewards than the previous:
      • Tier I: Levels 1-90
      • Tier II: Levels 91-180
      • Tier III: Levels 181-299
      • Tier IV: Level 300
  • Uprisings:
    • Four-player group content similar to Flashpoints but shorter in length with larger packs of enemies to fight and generally more challenging encounters.
    • Five Uprisings were introduced during Game Update 5.0, including:
      • Fractured
      • Done and Dusted
      • Crimson Fang
      • Inferno
      • Firefrost
  • Crisis on Umbara (new flashpoint).
  • A Traitor Among the Chiss (new flashpoint).

Legacy of the Sith

Release: February 15, 2022

Legacy of the Sith (LotS) is the eighth and current expansion for SWTOR. It offers a new storyline focusing on Darth Malgus that takes place on Manaan, with the Republic and Empire working to secure the planet for their respective factions.

Aside from story, the biggest change implemented in this expansion is none other than Combat Styles. These allow the same character to swap between multiple Advanced Classes on the fly once unlocked.

Below is an overview of the new features introduced at the launch of the Legacy of the Sith expansion:

  • Level cap increased (from 75 to 80).
  • The new main quest storyline with Darth Malgus as the central character.
  • Planet Manaan (new storyline, daily missions, and rewards).
  • Combat Styles:
    • In the past, players were limited to swapping between various disciplines associated with the Advanced Class they chose for their characters at level 10. Combat Styles removes these restrictions, allowing characters to instantly switch between Advanced Classes with their respective discipline options at will.
    • As long as your base character class wields the same weapon type, you can switch to a Combat Style belonging to an entirely different Advanced Class (e.g., a Sith Juggernaut can switch to Sith Sorcerer, as both wield lightsabers).
    • Combat Styles allow swapping to different Advanced Classes of opposite factions because of the weapon rule (e.g., a Commando can switch to Powertech).
    • Your base character class from the moment of creation decides the storyline you will play from 1-50, but you can enjoy the story of the Smuggler with the combat and abilities of an Imperial Agent, for instance.
  • Loadouts:
    • Save your character’s gear/appearance customizations, talent/discipline choices, ability bars, user interface options, and Combat Styles using Loadouts.
    • Swap between Loadouts instantly.
  • Elom (new flashpoint).
