Baldur’s Gate 3 – Points of No Return

baldur's gate 3 point of no return

As you progress the narrative in Baldur’s Gate 3, there are certain points of no return where you cannot revisit content. Read to learn more.

The game is divided into 3 Acts, where each of them takes place in different locations with their side quests and explorable areas. Each is worth completing as you can get valuable rewards from them.

Fortunately, the game will always warn you when you are about to pass a point of no return. If you choose to continue, the game will transfer all progress and important NPCs to the next Act to move the story forward. Conversely, if you choose to back out, you can go and explore what remains in the current Act.

Point of No Return – Act 1

You will reach the point of no return in Act 1 after passing through the Underdark or Mountain Pass and reach the Shadow Lands. Once you have charted your path to the Moonrise Towers, you will receive a notification that there is unfinished business in Act 1. Choose either to complete all remaining side quests or progress to Act 2.

If you choose to continue, you can still go back to previously visited areas, but most quests will be locked out. This is due to the time-sensitive quest mechanic in BG3.

Point of No Return – Act 2

You will reach the point of no return in Act 2 when you complete the Gauntlet of Shar. Once you proceed to find the Nightsong, you will receive a notification that there is unfinished business in Act 2. Choose either to complete all remaining side quests or progress to Act 3.

If you choose to continue, all previously visited areas except for the Shadow Lands will be locked out.

Point of No Return – Act 3

The final point of no return in Baldur’s Gate 3 is when you face the Absolute and Elder Brain to make your last choice.
