YouTube, the world’s definitive site for user-generated videos, is testing a three-strikes policy for those who browse with ad-blockers. This would prevent video playback if the user insisted on using this kind of software.
While the testing was first discovered and leaked on Reddit, YouTube has recently confirmed it is ongoing and has shed more light on the upcoming policy.
The company noted that ad-blocking software violates YouTube’s Terms of Service and affected users will receive repeat notifications requesting that they allow ads on the platform.
YouTube has also continued by stating that it takes disabling video playback quite seriously and will only engage in this policy when users repeatedly ignore requests to turn off ad blocking on the platform.
In the case that viewers feel as if they have been falsely flagged for using an ad blocker, they can share the feedback by clicking on the link in the prompt.
