WoW: Dragonflight Emerald Dream Update Arrives November 7

The next major update for World of Warcraft: Dragonflight, taking players through a journey into the Emerald Dream, will arrive on November 7.

Patch 10.2, entitled Guardians of the Dream, introduces the Emerald Dream as a playable zone. This region represents Azeroth as it would be in a wild, natural state, free of outside influence from humanoid races, and is a location that was planned to be put into the game as early as vanilla (as proven in the game’s files). However, players did get to journey through the Emerald Nightmare as a raid during Legion (2016).

Like most major patches to the king of MMOs, a new raid will be arriving in the form of Amirdrassil, the Dream’s Hope. The raid starts November 14 and takes place within a budding world tree; one that will likely become the new home of the night elves after Sylvanas burned down Teldrassil during the events of Battle for Azeroth (2018).

The update also marks the start of a new season for PvP and Mythic+ dungeons. Eight dungeons will serve as part of the Mythic+ pool, two of them being Dawn of the Infinites, which is split into two parts, and introduced as part of the 10.1.5 update. The remaining six dungeons will continue the trend of Blizzard repackaging dungeons from previous expansions, including Darkheart Thicket and Black Rook Hold from Legion, Waycrest Manor and Atal’Dazar from Battle for Azeroth, Everbloom from Warlords of Draenor, and Throne of the Tides from Cataclysm.

New main story quests will continue the narrative of Dragonflight, both of which will be related to the new raid and the final leg of the Rebuilding of Tyr quest chain, along with an additional series of quests that involve Wrathion and Vyranoth in their struggle to bring more groups of dragons into the fold.

Fans have speculated that Patch 10.2 could be the final major content update for Dragonflight given the end of several other major storylines and details from the public test realm (PTR), but only time will tell.

Guardians of the Dream will come mere days after BlizzCon 2023, which runs from November 3-4, 2023. Chris Metzen, the former Senior VP of Story & Franchise Development on Warcraft, StarCraft, Diablo, and Overwatch returned to Blizzard full-time as an executive creative director and will be there to reveal what is coming next for the franchise. Furthermore, Blizzard president Mike Ybarra has teased that Warcraft has more news to share than any of its other franchises this year.

World of Warcraft is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game developed by Blizzard Entertainment and initially released worldwide in 2004 for PC and Mac.
