In a stunning turn of events, HBO has canceled Westworld, its major sci-fi drama, after four seasons. This info comes as soon as Season 4 concluded in August.
According to an article issued by The Hollywood Reporter, HBO is stopping Westworld. However, this isn’t where the series is planning on stopping. Jonathan Nolan, the co-creator, stated:
“We always planned for a fifth and final season. We are still in conversations with the network. We very much hope to make them.”
Lisa Joy, another co-creator, added that they wanted the ending to be a hit, but they won’t be able to achieve that now.
The HBO network wrote that “Over the past four seasons, Lisa and Jonah have taken viewers on a mind-bending odyssey, raising the bar at every step. We are tremendously grateful to them, along with their immensely talented cast, producers and crew, and all of our partners at Kilter Films, Bad Robot, and Warner Bros. Television. It’s been a thrill to join them on this journey.”

Debuting as far back as 2016, the series is based on a 1973 film by Michael Crichton. A wild west theme park that features realistic-looking robots exists and caters to the wealthy. Yet, some of the robots break down and malfunction, creating complete chaos. Further seasons explore more of what was created by Nolan and Joy.
Westworld’s cast includes Evan Rachel Wood, Ed Harris, Tessa Thompson, Jeffrey Wright, James Marsden, and Thandiwe Newton. During its time, the series was awarded up to seven Emmys and nominated for more.
