Tinder Select is a new subscription for the popular dating app, currently offered to less than 1% of users at $500/month. It’s invite-only, but accepted applicants will receive exclusive perks such as early access to upcoming features and a virtual badge, according to Bloomberg.
This subscription represents the fourth paid tier, standing alongside Tinder+, Tinder Gold, and Tinder Platinum.
Gary Swidler, chief financial officer and president of Match Group, the parent company of Tinder, spoke during a Citi conference earlier this month, saying this new premium tier will have “a significant impact on revenue per payer and ultimately on revenue.” This is in spite of a “relatively tiny amount of new payers.”
What Does Tinder Select Include?
According to the official website, a Tinder Select membership includes the following perks:
- Direct messaging without having to match (2x per week)
- Unblurred profile photo that is prioritized on users’ “Likes You” grid for a week
- Exclusive tier badge
- “Select Mode” that allows members to see and be seen by the most sought-after profiles for “more exceptional connections”
- Early access to upcoming features
- Hide ads
- See likes sent over the past week
Bernard Kim, the newly appointed CEO, announced changes to the dating app’s marketing and pricing efforts, saying, “We’re rolling into this really exciting time period for Tinder…first half of the year, we’re focused on revenue and building that foundation, getting that revenue growth to become double-digit again. And then now we can work on these great innovative features.”
Other dating apps are following suit, offering higher-cost tiers in recent months. Hinge, which is also owned by Match Group, recently rolled out a $49.99 tier, called Hinge X. In addition, Bumble is considering a new tier above the $59.99 per month plan, and Grindr is planning to include other premium benefits, according to the Wall Street Journal.
