In case you’d rather be typing away on your desktop/laptop, there’s now a traditional web version of Threads to use. Meta first announced the rollout about a week ago. Now, Adam Mosseri, the Head of Instagram, confirmed the update is live for all users.
Threads debuted earlier this year as a mobile-exclusive app, even though you could still view posts on the web. However, this web version was considered non-existent, as it did not provide full functionality until now. While users could manually search user profiles, they were unable to browse feeds, post, reply, or log in to their accounts via the traditional web browser.
Many believe that the lack of a web version of Threads is a key culprit in the platform’s drop-off in engagement shortly after launching. Both Mosseri and Zuckerberg have consistently promised a web version, but they were working on fixing bugs.
Now that users finally have a web version, it will be telling to see which other “missing” features will be put into Threads. Things like content search in the form of hashtags and specific posts, and others such as direct messaging are the highest in demand.
