‘Threads’ Is The Name Of Instagram’s Twitter Competitor

Threads

The upcoming “text-based conversation app” from Meta, known as Threads, is coming on July 6. Designed as a competitor to Twitter with microblogging functionality, this app offers comparable features; including the ability for communities to come together to discuss topics, follow, and connect with other users.

According to social media consultant Matt Navarra, the new site provides users the ability to receive all the things they want out of Twitter but are no longer being served by the platform.

Twitter still has a very strong base of users, and like any network with new leadership, has undergone significant changes since October 2022. With Musk introducing temporary rate limits to the blue-bird platform, many believe that Threads will be the breath of fresh air they need. Of course, there’s also Mastodon.

You can sign up today by typing the word “Threads” into the Instagram search bar and receiving a ticket emoji on the far right representing an invitation. Click it to begin the registration process.

At the moment, your username for Threads will be identical to your username for Instagram. It’s still unclear as to whether or not you’ll be able to change it down the line.
