The Silph Road Shuts Down After 7 Years

The Silph Road, a community of experts and data miners providing guides and info for Pokémon GO, is shutting down after seven years.

Developer Niantic announced on May 12, 2023, that it would conclude the year-long partnership between itself and The Silph Road, helping the fan-run site stay afloat.

This change is due to revisions made to Niantic’s Community Ambassador Program, initially created to provide rewards and perks for active communities and leaders running in-person events for the popular AR game.

It has caused a great stir in the community. The Silph Road was the de-facto hub for guides, data mining, and other critical information to help trainers throughout their journey in Pokémon GO since the game launched in July 2016.

After official posts on Reddit and Twitter, The Silph Road has been receiving an overwhelming wave of support from fans of the game.

These changes are the latest in a series of highly controversial decisions developer Niantic has been making with respect to the direction of Pokémon GO. More recently, major changes to Remote Raid Pass have resulted in the game seeing lower monthly returns than in the past five years.
