HBO has officially confirmed the rumors that the live-action TV series based on The Last of Us will debut on January 15. Furthermore, a new poster was revealed on Twitter by Naughty Dog, the developer of the original games. See it below:
People were already speculating about the date when they noticed the release date of January 15, 2023, on the HBO Max app. The show was confirmed to previously debut sometime next year.
The official TV series of The Last of Us follows the events of Part I (the first game), 20 years after the decimation of civilization by a virus. Joel (Pedro Pascal) is hired to sneak a young girl named Ellie (Bella Ramsey) to safety from out of a quarantine zone.
According to the description by HBO, “What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.”
Alongside Pascal and Ramsey, the cast includes Gabriel Luna as Tommy, Nick Offerman as Bill, Murray Bartlett as Frank, and Storm Reid as Riley. Merle Dandridge, one of the actors who starred in the original game, will be reprising the role of Marlene.
Craig Mazin, the writer of Chernobyl and The Hangover sequels, is writing The Last of Us TV Series alongside Neil Druckmann, head of development of Naughty Dog.
The Last of Us Part 1 and The Last of Us Part 2 games are exclusively available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
