Ever since the Disney acquisition of the epic space opera franchise by George Lucas, the company has made major revisions to the original Star Wars canon. Here is a timeline of every major Star Wars media property in chronological order as part of the modern Disney canon.
The word “canon” is a reference to the definitive story, in other words, what actually happens in the official timeline.
By the time Disney purchased LucasFilm in 2012, the franchise already had an extensive media line that spanned well beyond the first six films.
The fanbase referred to these dozens of additional books, comics, and TV specials under an umbrella term known as the “Expanded Universe (EU).” However, since the time of the Disney acquisition, almost everything that was part of the EU was declared non-canon to start from a clean slate.
As of April 25, 2014, all content under the original EU has been rebranded to ‘Legends’ and is no longer adhered to in terms of the new Disney-branded ‘Canon.’ Everything released after this date, save for the first six films and the Clone Wars series that came before, is considered canon under the Disney label.
Here is a complete timeline of the official Disney Star Wars canon in chronological order. We will also be including the production year of each release.

Timeline of Star Wars
Star Wars has historically measured the timeline of the franchise for both Legends and Canon using the Battle of Yavin, also known as the Battle of the Death Star, as its foundation. This includes:
- BBY (before the Battle of Yavin)
- ABY (after the Battle of Yavin)
At Star Wars Celebration 2023, the official convention hosted almost every single year, Disney released the timeline of the Canon with a new visual. It begins with the Dawn of the Jedi and concludes with the rise of the New Jedi Order.
