Temtem is an increasingly popular pet collection game that seeks to merge the concept of Pokémon with MMORPGs. Explore an open world full of other tamers where you can pit various creatures called Temtems against other players in double battles. For those just getting their feet wet, check out the starters and tier list in this article.
What is the best beginner Temtem?
Just like Pokémon, Temtem has you filling the shoes of an aspiring trainer (tamer) in which you begin your journey by selecting one of three starting creatures.

Each of the Temtem starters begins at Level 5 when you receive them and has a unique elemental affinity with individual strengths and weaknesses. These elements are all designed to counter one another.
It may seem like a heavy decision to make early in the game, but remember that you can acquire all three starters and their evolutions later on. This is achievable through breeding and catching.
Crystle
Crystle is a Temtem of the Crystal type and has primary strengths in HP and defense. This green crystal turtle evolves into its second form after 30 levels and its final form after 21 levels.
Once it evolves into Tortenite, its final form, it acquires the Toxic type. The key benefits that Tortenite offers are heavy damage soak and exceptional at applying status conditions to opponents.
If an opponent battles a Tortenite, there is a good probability that it will end up trapped or poisoned, where it cannot be swapped out.
Crystal-type Temtems work very well offensively, and Tortenite benefits from many of its moves being able to work in combos with other strong types like Melee or Wind.
- Type: Crystal
- Strong versus: Electric, Mental
- Weak versus: Fire, Earth
- Trait: Amphibian (Speed increases when hit with water attacks)
- Starter stats:
- HP: 27
- Attack: 16
- Defense: 17
- Special Attack: 14
- Special Defense: 14
- Speed: 13
- Stamina: 22
Houchic
Houchic is a Temtem of the Mental type and has primary strengths in Special Attacks and common Neutral types.
This Temtem evolves into Tental, its middle-form, at Level 29. Finally, it evolves into its final form Nagaise, at Level 24. At this point, it acquires a Water-type that works well with its Special Attack and Speed.
Unfortunately, the greatest weakness of Nagaise is that its type combo has a large number of counters, including the weakness of 4X to Electric moves.
- Type: Mental
- Strong versus: Neutral, melee
- Weak versus: Crystal
- Trait: Soft Touch (Sleeping Temtem will not wake up when attacked)
- Starter stats:
- HP: 24
- Attack: 14
- Defense: 14
- Special Attack: 17
- Special Defense: 15
- Speed: 16
- Stamina: 22
Smazee
Smazee is a Temtem of the Melee type and has primary strengths in speed and attack power. After 29 levels, it evolves into Baboong at the middle stage, then Seismunch 23 levels after that. Its final form is quite comparable to Infernape, and takes on the Earth elemental affinity.
Seismunch has significant HP, along with high-speed and hard-hitting physical attacks. This combines to make Seismunch a strong attacker that often hits first and is able to take quite a few punches.
Fortunately, Seismunch has very few weaknesses, which make him an extremely viable option in the current meta.
- Type: Melee
- Strong versus: Earth, Crystal
- Weak versus: Mental
- Trait: Fever Rush (Attack increases with a status condition)
- Starter stats:
- HP: 26
- Attack: 17
- Defense: 14

- Special Defense: 13
- Speed: 16
- Stamina: 22
