In a recent livestream presentation, Eiji Aonuma, Nintendo’s project manager for The Legend of Zelda series, revealed new gameplay features coming to Tears of the Kingdom, set to release on May 12, 2023.
More than five years after the initial launch of the Nintendo Switch, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is still the most technically impressive open-world experience on the console. Since the game’s release, fans have been demanding more content, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a sequel meant to deliver on this.
We now have official confirmation of several new major gameplay features coming to the highly anticipated sequel. Below is a recap of everything covered in the presentation:
- Just like in Breath of the Wild, Link will discover, pick up, and equip weapons dropped from enemies and found throughout the open world.
- Unlike the preceding game, Tears of the Kingdom allows Link to fuse together multiple objects in order to make what could have been extremely weak weapons much stronger with improved durability (and range).
- The fusing system in Tears of the Kingdom extends beyond weapons. Link can create makeshift boats out of wood and fans scattered throughout the land. Ideas are endless, and up to the player’s imagination to help explore the world.
- Link can use a new ability called ‘Ascend’ to pass through ceilings and get on top of tall structures faster, without the need to climb.
- Link has the power to briefly rewind time to navigate the world.
