Bethesda is working on expanding content and features for its sci-fi RPG Starfield, the company’s first new IP in 25 years. In the game, players explore a massive galaxy with the ability to command ships and traverse nearly every star they see. The developer has teased an upcoming feature update that will include “new ways of traveling”.
Even with its grandiose sense of scale, the lack of diverse ways to traverse, whether that is across the surface of 1000 planets or within star systems, has been a pain for gamers. Bethesda has officially noted that not putting ground vehicles into the experience was meant to encourage a more slow-placed exploration loop.
However, a recent response to player feedback on Reddit regarding the latest patch suggests there may be additional ways of getting around that are coming to the game. While Bethesda has not fully indicated what “new ways of traveling” means exactly, it has sparked fans’ imagination hoping for the inclusion of vehicles or more seamless ways of navigating star systems.
The latest Starfield update addressed several sore spots, including the bug that sees asteroids getting stuck to ships, a fix to building bugs related to outposts, resolution to save issues when players stay on the same file for too long without triggering New Game+. Fans were eager for additional updates, so in response, Bethesda said this on Reddit:
We’ve been hard at work on many of the issues you’ve posted, and expect an update early next year that will include a large number of “in-progress” quest fixes as well as FSR3 and XeSS. Though we fixed several quest issues from occurring, in-progress quest fixes are much harder to fix and we’ve built a new system to correct those without you having to roll back your save.

The developer response also indicated that fans should expect major content updates approximately every six weeks. While Starfield is meant to be a single-player, Xbox and Bethesda have been clear that they wish to see it enjoyed with the same player retention and longevity as Skyrim.
Starfield is an open-world action RPG developed by Bethesda Softworks and initially released worldwide in 2023 for PC and Xbox Series X|S.
