For the first time in 25 years, Bethesda will soon be gracing gamers with a brand new IP called Starfield. Today, in an official launch date announcement, the company has revealed that the game will once again be delayed to September 6, 2023.

Todd Howard, the game’s director, says that Microsoft and Bethesda will hold a direct event for Starfield on June 11th with new details surrounding the experience.

Originally, Starfield was coming out on November 11, 2022, in direct homage to the release date of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which launched on November 11, 2011 (11/11/11). Earlier this year, Microsoft and Bethesda showcased a trailer containing up to 15 minutes of gameplay for Starfield.

Game director Todd Howard has appropriately described Starfield as “Skyrim in space,” including the ability to play in both first-person and third-person, but mainly designed for first-person. Bethesda continues to heavily emphasize character customization, allowing players to change skin tones, hair, facial structure, and more.

Those who play Starfield will have up to three traits to customize their characters and a skill system with separate ranks and various unlockables. On top of this, players can acquire resources to craft mods for weapons and armor.

Early gameplay footage of Starfield suggests that you can freely explore multiple planets in the system, with Bethesda claiming there are well over 1,000 to explore.

Starfield is launching exclusively on PC and Xbox Series X / S on September 6, 2023. In addition, Xbox Game Pass subscribers will get day-one access to the game.
