Starfield Represents The First Of Steady First-Party Titles

An executive from Xbox said that Starfield represents a “starting gun” for what will become a steady stream of first-party titles.

Although Microsoft has been pushing out a ton of new proprietary releases since last year, recent titles such as Redfall have fallen flat according to Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft Gaming.

Despite this, Jerret West, Xbox Chief Marketing Officer spoke to GamesIndustry.biz and expressed excitement about the regular releases that are planned by the company following the arrival of Bethesda’s Starfield on September 6.

“I was sitting there watching the same [Starfield presentation] you were this morning and I was like… this is really the start of something that’s going to then lead to Forza, then in 2024 as we go to Hellblade, and we think about Towerborne which is on the show floor, we think about Avowed, and we’ve got stories we haven’t told yet as well, that are going to unfurl in 2024 and 2025.”

The comments by West have been echoed by the head of Xbox Games Studio Matt Booty, who mentioned that the publisher “turned the corner” in an effort to deliver up to four first-party games each year.

“I am feeling very good about launching Hi-Fish Rush, we have Minecraft Legends out there that’s doing well…We’ve had Age of Empires continuing to come to console. As we saw today, we are very excited for this fall with Forza Motorsport and Starfield.”
