In this guide, you will learn how to make use of photo mode while playing Starfield.

You will need to complete the first ten minutes or so of the game until the feature becomes available.

Prerequisites

Complete the Opening Section

Play through the opening mine section of the game until you’re asked to interact with the ‘Artifact’. Engage and wait for your character to pass out.

Awaken

Once your character wakes up, you will have access to Photo Mode. Press the Menu button, then the View button.

Leave Vectera and Travel to Kreet

After a quick battle with mercenaries, you will enter your spaceship and leave the planet moon of Vectera. After the brief flight tutorial, set course for the planet Kreet.

Shortly after landing on Kreet, you will receive the scanner. This item lets you analyze alien flora and fauna. It also allows you to access Photo Mode faster.

How to Use Photo Mode – Starfield

Once you are prompted to use the scanner, press LB to enter scan mode, then click the right analog stick to enter Photo Mode.

At any point during gameplay, press the Menu button followed by the View button to return to the pause menu.

Once in the pause menu, press A on the ‘Photo Mode‘ option and you can begin taking virtual pictures at nearly any point during gameplay.

Scroll over to the ‘Photo Gallery‘ tab, press A, then check out your screenshots.

Where are Starfield Photos Stored?

Once you’ve accumulated some screenshots in the Photo Gallery, the folder file path will appear on your system’s storage drive.

PC

  • Open Windows File Explorer > This PC > Local Disk (C:) > Users > User > OneDrive > Documents > My Games > Starfield > Data > Textures > Photos

Xbox

  • Go to My games & apps > See all > Apps > Captures
