Visit Robin at the Carpenter’s Shop in the north part of Pelican Town. She will assist you in building a Chicken Coop which you can later upgrade to increase the number of chickens you can store.

Next, visit Marnie’s Ranch and purchase chickens from her. Or, place eggs in an incubator.

There are three types of chickens that are differentiated on the basis of their color: white, brown, and blue. The chickens have to be assigned to the coop and you can even name them.

Chickens have a diet of only hay or grass. Hay can be obtained by cutting the grass on your farm or by purchasing it from Marnie. Each chicken requires its own bale of hay.

You can find the hay on the top left corner of the Coop and you can place it in the feeding tray. You can even have Robin build you a silo so you can store the hay. Deluxe coops do not require manual input as they have an automatic feeding system.

Stardew Valley is a farm life simulation game developed by ConcernedApe and initially released in 2016 for PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. It was later ported to Nintendo Switch in 2017, PlayStation Vita and iOS in 2018, and Android in 2019.
