Here are all the guides, tips, and strategies to enjoy playing Sonic Mania / Sonic Mania Plus with cheats and unlockables.
Level Select
Activating Level Select differs by the platform you’re playing the game on. You must first unlock Debug Mode and enable it. Then, navigate to the save selection screen of Mania Mode, choose the No Save option, and press the following combinations of buttons.
- PC: Press the Q and A keys together.
- Nintendo Switch: Options, hold Y, and start the game with the A button.
- Xbox One: Menu button, then press Y and X together.
- PlayStation 4: Options, then press TRIANGLE and SQUARE.
Competition and Time Attack
After completing the first stage of the game, you will unlock two new options on the main menu. These offer additional stages the further into Mania Mode you go.
- Competition (split-screen local competition, based on Sonic 2)
- Time Attack (speed run mode on individual zones)
Debug Mode, Super Peel Out, Insta-Shield, and more cheats
Play through the main Mania mode to unlock a number of new abilities and moves. The following can be unlocked by collecting Blue Sphere medals.
- Sonic CD move Super Peel-Out
- Sonic 3 and K move Insta-Shield
- Debug Mode
- And Knuckles
To use cheats and alternate modes, navigate into Mania Mode and hover over the ‘No Save’ icon on the right. Next, press one of the following button combinations depending on your system:
- Nintendo Switch: X
- PlayStation 4: TRIANGLE
- Xbox One: Y
Extras
Venturing into the Extras menu displays three additional unlockables. They are optional modes unlocked by completing the Blue Sphere special stages. Get all 32 Silver medals or higher to unlock the following:
- Blue Spheres (mini-game in original and Mania modes)
- D.A. Garden (sound test)
- Mean Bean (Puyo Puyo mini-game)
Sonic Mania Plus (exclusive cheats)
Since the release of Sonic Mania Plus, a new set of cheats has been revealed. After entering the Level Select cheat, visit the sound test screen.
Enter the sounds in the following order to unlock the specific cheat. You will know you are successful when the sound plays.
