Unlockables

Upgrades

Light Shoes (Sonic)

  • Level: Metal Harbor
  • Upgrades needed: None
  • Ability: Dash through rings.

At the start of the level, where you need to homing attack on the GUN robots floating in the area, land on the platform just past them. You’ll see a trail of rings in front of you, along with a tower to the left with a pulley. Grab the pulley, and you’ll find the Light Shoes at the top.

Ancient Light (Sonic)

  • Level: Green Forest
  • Upgrades needed: None
  • Ability: Attack enemies in a row quickly.

After coming off the half-loop, jump on the springs and land on the platform. Go to the right to find a 10 Ring capsule. At the edge, you should see a floating GUN robot. Homing attack to him, the item capsule behind him, and the last item capsule to land on a new platform to get the upgrade.

Bounce Bracelet (Sonic)

  • Level: Pyramid Cave
  • Upgrades needed: None
  • Ability: Bounce after jumping to reach higher platforms.

Keep progressing through the level as you normally would until you run right into this upgrade.

Flame Ring (Sonic)

  • Level: Crazy Gadget
  • Upgrades needed: None
  • Ability: Break metal containers.

At the second hyper-warp tube, you’ll switch to the ceiling. Run to the other end and press the switch to fall back down. You’ll see three metal containers in your path. Turn around, run to the back wall, then head right to a spring to bounce up to the top platform. You’ll see a set of metal containers in the shape of a U. Find the Flame Ring upgrade in the center.

Magic Gloves (Sonic)

  • Level: City Escape
  • Upgrades needed: Bounce Bracelet/Flame Ring
  • Ability: Pick up enemies to throw at others.

After the loop/wall run, you should arrive in an area with two poles and a staircase. On the ground, there are four metal containers. Bounce attack on these to break them open and find the Magic Gloves upgrade.

Mystic Melody (Sonic)

  • Level: Final Rush
  • Upgrades needed: None
  • Ability: Open new paths/shortcuts when played at ancient shrines.

Get to the area with lots of grind rails, and stay straight until you reach an area where a speed boost pushes you up a rail to hit a spring. This will land you on a platform with two rails, one that is purple/yellow and another that is orange/yellow.

Take the orange/yellow rail, and be sure to crouch while grinding. The momentum will have you flying off and landing on a platform with a rocket. Get on the rocket to reach a 1-Up. From there, jump to the below platform with an animal and spring. Bounce on the spring to a platform, then grind up the railing. Once you land on the next platform, you’ll see an ancient shrine, and just past it is the Mystic Melody upgrade.

Booster (Tails)

  • Level: Mission Street
  • Upgrades needed: None
  • Ability: Hover after jumping.

After you come out of the first tunnel to a highway, drop down to the road that collapsed in front of you. Head to the intersection with a purple sign pointing to the right. Go left to grab the Booster upgrade.

Bazooka (Tails)

  • Level: Eternal Engine
  • Upgrades needed: None
  • Ability: Break metal containers.

Go through the board until you get to a long bridge with Artificial Chaos at the end of it. Take out the enemy to destroy the bridge, dropping you to a platform below. Hit the nearby switch and find a spring to bounce up to a platform. Here you’ll find a capsule that will take you to the top, letting you enter a doorway containing the Bazooka upgrade.

Laser Blaster (Tails)

  • Level: Prison Lane
  • Upgrades needed: Bazooka
  • Ability: Increased attack radius.

Near the end of the stage, look for a door behind the Goal ring to the left. Instead of heading to the goal, destroy every enemy in the room, making sure to take care of the ones high above as well. This should open the door, allowing you to progress through the hallway until you make it to the end.

Destroy the remaining enemies to open another door containing the Laser Blaster upgrade.

Mystic Melody (Tails)

  • Level: Hidden Base
  • Upgrades needed: Bazooka
  • Ability: Open new paths/shortcuts when played at ancient shrines.

Near the start of the level, find an area with a building and a small hallway before coming outside. When you get outside, continue forward slightly before heading left near a checkpoint. Keep going forward and end up in an area with blocks in the sand.

Proceed through the sand blocks along the left until you reach a building that can be destroyed. Use the pulley to get on top. Continue until reaching an area in which you’ll find monkeys throwing bombs. Take them out and get to an area with a lower platform. At the end, simply destroy the four metal containers blocking your path to find the Mystic Melody upgrade.

Shovel Claw (Knuckles)

  • Level: Pumpkin Hill
  • Upgrades needed: None
  • Ability: Dig through the ground and walls.

Right at the beginning, you’ll find the Shovel Claw upgrade straight in front of you after gliding past the small beam.

Air Necklace (Knuckles)

  • Level: Aquatic Mine
  • Upgrades needed: None
  • Ability: Infinite air underwater.

Go forward and up the nearby structure at the start of the level. Take the pulley to the top floor. Hit the nearby switch to set the water to level 3.

Return to where you started and locate the shafts containing “Caution” signs. Pass through and quickly swim underwater through a tunnel to come out near some wooden planks.

Work your way through the planks and go through the next tunnels to eventually arrive at the Air Necklace.

Hammer Gloves (Knuckles)

  • Level: Death Chamber
  • Upgrades needed: None
  • Ability: Break metal containers.

At the start of the level, hit the nearby hourglass to go through the door. When in the hallway, break open the wooden containers to your right to find the upgrade.

Sunglasses (Knuckles)

  • Level: Meteor Herd
  • Upgrades needed: Hammer Gloves
  • Ability: See hidden items.

Go to the middle structure and go around such that you face across the stage from where you started. You will see a meteor on top of a platform. Move to the other side, get near the edge, and run towards the meteor while hitting B to punch it in the direct of the center structure.

This should open a gray door with a red light, and inside will be a switch. Hit the switch to open the top area, allowing you inside. Find the Sunglasses upgrade at the bottom platform.

Mystic Melody (Knuckles)

  • Level: Wild Canyon
  • Upgrades needed: Shovel Claw
  • Ability: Open new paths/shortcuts when played at ancient shrines.

At the beginning of the level, jump to the air lift. Head to the Lonely Statue once outside, and climb up the wall. You should see an oval-shaped picture that Knuckles can dig through. You’ll find the Mystic Melody upgrade on the other side.

Air Shoes (Shadow)

  • Level: White Jungle
  • Upgrades needed: None
  • Ability: Dash through rings.

After reaching an area with four crates barring your path, break them open and continue down the corridor, leading you to a vine. When you get off the vine, you’ll land on a platform. Break the crate to the right side and drop down to find the Air Shoes upgrade.

Flame Ring (Shadow)

  • Level: Radical Highway
  • Upgrades needed: Air Shoes
  • Ability: Break metal containers.

Run through the board until you reach an area with stacks of wooden containers and a sign that says “Road Closed Ahead” on the right side. Jump up the wooden containers or take the pulley to get up top. Bounce up to the next highway.

Immediately turn around to fight a spinning object. Somersault underneath it to find a chao. Use the Air Shoes to move down the line of rings to get to a spring. When you bounce up, you’ll be standing in front of the Flame Ring upgrade.

Ancient Light (Shadow)

  • Level: Sky Rail
  • Upgrades needed: None
  • Ability: Attack enemies in a row quickly.

Follow along until you reach the first rocket in the level. Instead of taking it, jump and homing attack at the nearby enemy. Land and proceed to the chao box.

While you’re near the edge, jump high in the air and get over the edge. Homing attack through the line of enemies to get to a spring where you’ll bounce up and receive the Ancient Light upgrade.

Mystic Melody (Shadow)

  • Level: Final Chase
  • Upgrades needed: None
  • Ability: Open new paths/shortcuts when played at ancient shrines.

Progress through the stage until you reach the point where you can jump into one of three holes. Take the center hole to get to the area with vertical gravity tubes.

Make your way through until you get to one with an electric field around it. Jump to this tube and get to the top to find the Mystic Melody upgrade.

Jet Engine (Dr. Eggman)

  • Level: Lost Colony
  • Upgrades needed: None
  • Ability: Hover after jumping.

Progress through the stage until reaching a room with a giant circle and no exit. Head to the left and follow down the path until turning again.

You’ll find a group of metal containers that will let you go up. Follow the path up until finding the Jet Engine upgrade.

Large Cannon (Dr. Eggman)

  • Level: Weapons Bed
  • Upgrades needed: None
  • Ability: Break metal containers.

Right at the start, go past the enemies until running into three garages, two of which have dynamite. Go through the middle garage to grab the Large Cannon upgrade.

Protective Armor (Dr. Eggman)

  • Level: Cosmic Wall
  • Upgrades needed: Jet Engine
  • Ability: Take more damage.

After the second checkpoint, find an area where you can go up using a series of platforms. Then make it over a wall to begin free falling. On the way down, go left to a platform containing a rocket.

Land on the platform and shoot the rocket to break some cages. Head over to the platform where the cages were to get the Protective Amor upgrade.

Laser Blaster (Dr. Eggman)

  • Level: Iron Gate
  • Upgrades needed: Large Cannon
  • Ability: Increases attack radius.

Go down the elevator shaft to the second checkpoint to find two large canisters. Destroy them and the metal containers. Down the hallway, you’ll find the Laser Blaster upgrade.

Mystic Melody (Dr. Eggman)

  • Level: Sand Ocean
  • Upgrades needed: Jet Engine
  • Ability: Open new paths/shortcuts when played at ancient shrines.

At the start of the level, go to the left path on the spinning platform. Jump and use the Jet Engine to hover over to the platform to get the Mystic Melody upgrade.

Pick Nails (Rouge)

  • Level: Egg Quarters
  • Upgrades needed: None
  • Ability: Dig through the ground and walls.

Go straight until reaching the blue room containing the Egg Fish Chamber. Trigger the rocket on the nearby platform to break the cages blocking a passage. Go through this passage to find the Pick Nails upgrade.

Mystic Melody (Rouge)

  • Level: Dry Lagoon
  • Upgrades needed: None
  • Ability: Open new paths/shortcuts when played at ancient shrines.

At the start of the level, turn to the right and find a picture you can crawl through to grab the Mystic Melody upgrade.

Treasure Scope (Rouge)

  • Level: Security Hall
  • Upgrades needed: Iron Boots / Mystic Melody
  • Ability: See hidden items.

At the start of the level, turn to the right to jump into the group of fans. Head to the back wall and climb up to the first platform on the right to find a canister. Walk down the platform to find an ancient shrine.

Use the Mystic Melody to make four platforms appear. Go up these floating platforms to find two metal containers. Break them open to reveal a room containing the Treasure Scope upgrade.

Iron Boots (Rouge)

  • Level: Mad Space
  • Upgrades needed: None
  • Ability: Break metal containers.

Get onto the gray planet that is fully intact. Find a small blue structure, locate the opening, and go inside to get the Iron Boots upgrade.

Areas

Hero Chao Garden

Use any of the three Hero characters (Sonic, Tails, Knuckles) to raise a chao. Feed and train the chao until it evolves. This will unlock a set of ascending stairs in the main lobby leading to the Hero Chao Garden.

Dark Chao Garden

Use any of the three Dark characters (Shadow, Eggman, Rouge) to raise a chao. Feed and train the chao until it evolves. This will unlock a set of descending stairs in the main lobby leading to the Dark Chao Garden.

Green Hill Zone 3D

Get all 180 Emblems in the game to find this stage on the World Map.

Features

1P Kart Race

Complete Route 101 (Tails, Hero Story) or Route 280 (Rouge, Dark Story).

2P Kart Race

Complete both Route 101 (Tails, Hero Story) and Route 280 (Rouge, Dark Story).

Hero Boss Attack

Beat Hero Story.

Dark Boss Attack

Beat Dark Story.

All Boss Attack

Beat Hero Story, Dark Story, and the Last Story to unlock All Boss Attack in 1P mode.

Hero and Dark Chao Races

Unlock the Hero Chao Garden and Dark Chao Garden, then beat all Beginner level Chao races.

Jewel and Challenge Races

Beat all 3 stages of the Beginner level Chao races.

Diamond and Onyx Races

Win at least one race from each of the following chao races: Aquamarine, Garnet, Peridot, and Topaz.

Dig in the garden as Knuckles or Rouge until one appears.

Shovel

Beat all three races in Crab Pool.

Elephant Watering Can

Beat all three races in Stump Valley.

Beat all three races in Mushroom Forest.

Chao Radio

Beat the 4th Dark race (‘Angel vs. Devil’). The radio will be available in the Dark Chao Garden.

Chao TV

Beat the 12th Challenge Race.

Jack-in-Box

Beat the 8th Challenge Race (‘Pumpkin Group’).

Rocking Horse

Beat the 4th Hero race (‘Devil vs. Angel’). The rocking horse will be available in the Hero Chao Garden.

Chao Ball

Beat the 4th Challenge race (‘Small Animal’).

Chao Ball (Dark Garden)

Beat the 2nd Dark race in first place.

Chao Ball (Hero Garden)

Beat the 2nd Hero race in first place.

Cheats

The game is enjoyable by itself, but cheating makes it even better. Always keep in mind to input codes with either an Action Replay, Codebreaker, or GameShark. All the below codes are compatible with most emulators.
