To celebrate 10 years of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Bethesda’s modern masterpiece that set the stage for AAA design across the industry ever since, the company released the Skyrim Anniversary Edition on November 11, 2021, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
The original game was an instant commercial success when it came out on November 11, 2011 (11/11/11) and saw multiple re-releases in various forms over time, including:
- The Legendary Edition (includes all three major content DLCs)
- Special Edition (HD remaster for the Xbox One and PS4)
- Nintendo Switch (port of the original 2011 game)
- Skyrim VR (virtual reality edition for PS4 and Windows systems)
- Very Special Edition (voice-controlled version of the game for Amazon Alexa)
However, the latest and greatest (and the only one you need to care about) is none other than the Anniversary Edition. This includes the most amount of facelifts, changes, and new experiences since Bethesda dropped the official Dragonborn DLC in 2012.
Is the Skyrim Anniversary Edition worth it?
In addition to updated graphics and faster load times to match yet another new console generation (60 FPS, 4K resolution), the Skyrim Anniversary Edition includes all three DLCs (Dawnguard, Hearthfire, Dragonborn) and releases from the Creation Club for the game. This service was initially released back in 2017 and includes mods from the player community officially approved by Bethesda for sale. Many of the mods offer unique modes, quest expansions, accessories, and more.
Whether you are a new or returning player, you cannot go wrong with investing in the greatest re-release that Skyrim has ever seen.
