Silent Hill Returns, Reveal By Konami This Week

After a series of leaks and rumors, the future of the Silent Hill franchise will be revealed by Konami on Wednesday, October 19, 2022. An official Twitter post confirmed the news, linking to a brand new website that has no additional information at the present time.

Masahiro Ito, the art director and monster designer who worked on the first three entries of Silent Hill, confirmed back in 2020 that he was employed as a “core member” of a new development team for an upcoming game. One particular art piece autographed by Ito appeared in several leaks from earlier in 2022, with many believing it to be a new Silent Hill entry.

Some believe the images relate to a new playable teaser in the style of the original 2014 P.T., which was a demo for the canceled Silent Hills game. The game was poised to be a major franchise relaunch in collaboration with famous designer Hideo Kojima and movie director Guillermo del Toro.

There are several other rumored projects as well. Last year, a partnership was announced between Konami and Bloober Team, a Polish horror studio, for a reported remake of Silent Hill 2. Furthermore, the community has heard rumors of a story-focused, episodic series. Finally, Christophe Gans, the director of the Silent Hill (2006) film, has stated that he is working on a script for a new movie.

This could all be revealed during the week.

While the series has cemented its place into the hearts of horror game fans for more than 20 years at this point, Silent Hill has kept dormant for the past 10. The latest entry in the franchise up until now has been Silent Hill: Downpour and the spinoff for handhelds known as Silent Hill: Book of Memories. Sadly, neither of these two entries was received positively by most.

Regardless, seeing Silent Hill return is a significant moment for longtime fans and a true test to developer Konami, a studio that has not seen a major game release since Metal Gear Survive in 2018.
