At The Game Awards 2023, SEGA unveiled a short trailer announcing multiple new titles based on classic franchises. Examples included Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, and more.
SEGA has stated that this is a “new era” for the company, confirming that new games in its major old-school series are now in development. It was an incredible reveal, and the news that even one of these franchises let alone a modern entry, is incredibly exciting.
After the announcement, Geoff explained that these titles would roll out over the next few years. In the trailer, featuring a couple playing games right before a power outage, there are a few snippets of early gameplay.
SEGA has yet to reveal much information about these new titles, as many are still in early development, but the company is requesting people sign up for more information which will come later.
Here is a full list of the most entries in each of the classic franchises SEGA is planning to revive:
- Crazy Taxi Tycoon, iOS/Android (2017)
- Jet Set Radio Future, PS2 (2002)
- Golden Axe: Beast Rider, PS3/X360 (2008)
- Streets of Rage 4, NS/PS4/PC/XONE (2020)
In October, SEGA reported it had canceled its most expensive title, Hyenas, prior to it even releasing. The budget was supposedly even more than $70 million, which is the equivalent of Shenmue (1999).
