Samuel L. Jackson, known for portraying Mace Windu in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, wants a Disney+ series for the iconic Jedi Master. He argues that the character is not dead.
Fans remember the shocking scene near the climax of Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005) when Palpatine used the power of the Dark Side to electrocute Windu to death as Anakin sliced his hand off and watched the renowned Jedi Master fall off the Chancellor’s balcony.
Up until now, there has been little to no debate that Windu bit the dust, but according to his actor, Jackson, this is not the case. In the words of Jackson, “HE’S NOT DEAD!!!”, and when asked if he would want to do an exclusive show based on the character, he responded with “EVERYTHING YES!!”.
Jackson is one of Hollywood’s biggest movie stars of all time, known for roles across major cinematic masterpieces including Pulp Fiction (1999), Jungle Fever (1991), and A Time to Kill (1999), among many others. He even has the letters ‘BMF’ etched into the hilt of the lightsaber given to him by George Lucas, which Jackson personally requested be made purple back when the prequels were in production.
The most recent appearance for Jackson reprising his role as Mace Windu was for a brief voice role in Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker, in which he speaks to Rey in her final moments on Exegol.
Fortunately, there is a new comic series called Star Wars: Mace Windu, which is set 10 years before The Phantom Menace.
Given that Windu is almost certainly dead in Disney Star Wars canon after the events of Episode III, it makes more sense to tell some sort of backstory that unravels the character’s past leading up to assuming a major position in the Jedi Order.
