During the 2022 Aniplex Online Fest, a new trailer was shown for the upcoming Rurouni Kenshin anime reboot set to premiere next year.
Anime News Network reported that Hideyo Yamamoto (Magical Girl Spec-Ops Asuka, Cells at Work! Code Black, Strike the Blood) would be directing the anime under studio LIDEN FILMS.
Rurouni Kenshin originally began as a 1994 manga series published in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. This manga has sold over 72 million copies across the globe and follows the story of Kenshin Himura during the Meiji Restoration, who was originally a deadly assassin and tries to find a new life outside of violence.
At first, the manga was adapted into a TV anime series spanning 95 episodes, three OVAs, and a musical by Takarazuka Revue.
