According to Game File, Ubisoft quietly dropped a new game recently called Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E. This new release was hardly even advertised or given the kind of spotlight reserved for major releases, especially when featuring such an iconic character like Rayman. It probably has something to do with how this is a Web3 game that makes use of cryptocurrency and blockchain.
Captain Laserhawk is based on a Netflix animated series called Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix, which was based on Far Cry: Blood Dragon, which was an 80’s themed DLC based on Far Cry 3.
Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E. is a top-down multiplayer shooter available on PC, featuring characters from the show in addition to Ubisoft’s long-lost beloved platform mascot hero Rayman.
Polygon posted a full impression of the game and detailed the need to purchase an NFT to even play it to begin with. It all sounds quite tedious, and the gameplay will likely fail to catch the interest of even the most die-hard fans.
Ubisoft was one of the first major gaming companies to jump on the blockchain bandwagon, releasing its own series of NFTs back in 2022. In addition, Ubisoft tried to launch Web3 guns and armor in Ghost Recon Breakpoint for players to sell and trade.
