Ratchet & Clank, the duo of destiny that helped launch the PlayStation 2 as the best-selling console in history, is finally coming to PC with the latest entry, Rift Apart (2021), set to release on Windows systems on July 26, 2023.
It’s become clear that Sony is no longer relying on permanent console exclusives to sell their latest video game system. Instead, it is embracing timed exclusives to get people to invest early.
Still, Insomniac Games’ Ratchet & Clank was one of the long-standing exclusive franchises that carved out an identity for PlayStation, just like their other big franchise, Spyro the Dragon. What’s more, you’ve got Naughty Dog which introduced the world to Crash Bandicoot and Jak & Daxter.
After more than 20 years, Ratchet & Clank will be officially heading to PC. The port of Rift Apart is done by Nixxes Software in collaboration with Insomniac Games. The announcement was first made in a blog post by Julian Huijibregts, stating that the game is “a visual spectacle that is perfectly suitable for newcomers.”
This statement is absolutely true, as Ratchet & Clank is a family-friendly third-person shooter platforming franchise appropriate for all ages.
Hopefully, the PC port doesn’t turn out bad like other recent releases (*cough* The Last of Us Part I). From what we know, the PC port of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, which was originally released as an exclusive for the PlayStation 5, will feature ray-tracing in addition to natural light in the outdoors with real-time shadows.
