Tips & Tricks

Attack First

Immediately after choosing a move, hold L and press A. This trick only works 50% of the time.

Avoid Recoil Damage

If you use attacks you know will kill the opposing Pokémon but hit you with a recoil, ensure your Pokémon has at least 20 HP left. Use this attack to not suffer recoil damage.

Inflict More Damage

While your Pokémon is attacking, hold DOWN + L + B and repeatedly press A.

Then when your Pokémon attacks, hold DOWN + L + A until the damage is taken. This is particularly effective when attempting a fatal attack. This trick only works 80-90% of the time.

Give Pokémon To Another Game Boy Pak Without Getting One Back

Place the desired Pokémon in a separate box from the one in which you have your other Pokémon. Transfer this box to the 64 Box on the Nintendo 64. Then, shut off the system and insert the desired Game Boy pak. If you have two transfer paks, switch the Game Boy pak with the one you plan to trade to. Finally, transfer the box with the Pokémon in it to the other Game Boy pak and you will have the Pokémon without giving one in return.

Take Less Damage

Use the following when a Pokémon is about to receive a fatal attack.

Hold DOWN + L + B until the energy takes effect. When the energy leaves, you will have an opportunity to strike the opponent Pokémon. This trick only works 70-80% of the time. It will not work if Pokémon are mismatched, such as when a level 50 Pokémon is fighting a level 100 Pokémon.

Trade Without A Second Transfer Pak

Put a box on the game, then put all Pokémon in the same box. Go back to the lab and put the box back on the game you are trading to. Then, finally, go to the box, and withdraw the Pokémon when you need it. This also works with items.

Unlockables

Alternate Title Screen

Successfully complete the Gym Leader Castle and Stadium modes. You will now see Pikachu, Blastoise, Charizard, Venusaur, and Mewtwo appear on the title screen.

Amnesia Psyduck

Get all 151 Pokémon in the hall of fame.

Bonus Stickers

Successfully defeat Mewtwo in R-1 mode and R-2 mode. Enter the gallery screen, hold L+R, and use the “Print” option. Continue holding the buttons until “Print” changes to “Bonus.” This will let you access 16 more stickers.

Kids Club Hyper Mode

In 1P mode with three CPU-controlled opponents, complete “Who’s the best?” five times in a row on hard difficulty within a single match. Hyper will be unlocked as a new difficulty setting for CPU-controlled players.

Mew

You can use Mew as a “Rental” Pokémon during Round 2. He can only be used in the Prime Cup tournament, Gym Leader Castle, Free Battle, and Mewtwo Battle Modes.

Play Faster

Successfully complete the entire Poké Cup to get a sticker on the GB Tower. This allows you to play the game twice as fast. If you beat the Masterball, a “Superfast” setting is unlocked in the GB Tower, changing the title to “Doduo GB Tower”. Press C-LEFT to activate it.

Start With All Three Beginning Pokémon

Start a new game in your Game Boy Pokémon game, then capture a Pidgey or Rattata. Save it to the boxes in Pokémon Stadium. Repeat the steps using different starters until you get all three. You can save and keep Pokémon from your old game that you still want before restarting.

Surfing Pikachu

Successfully complete the game, then unlock Round 2. Get up to the Masterball setting on either the Poké Cup or Prime Cup. Complete the Masterball setting with Pikachu as an active Pokémon.

If you succeed, the game will ask if you would like to replace one of Pikachu’s moves with Surf. Choose “Yes” then pick a move to be forgotten.

Pikachu will now pull out a surfboard and ride the wave whenever Surf is used.

Surfing Raichu

If you have a Raichu that knows surf, it will put its tail underneath itself and use it like a surfboard.

Talking Pikachu

Upload Pikachu from Pokémon Yellow. When battling, Pikachu will say its name and have unique motions for certain moves. Do not register this Pikachu.

Unlimited Number of Same Pokémon

Save your file using the Mega Memory Card from InterAct. Go to the Pokémon Lab and put the Pokémon to be duplicated using a 64 Box. Reload the game on your Mega Memory Card and receive the Pokémon in the 64 Box. Repeat this process as many times as you wish to create an unlimited number of the same Pokémon.

Pokémon Stadium is a strategy game developed by Nintendo and initially released in 1999 for Nintendo 64.
