Candy is one of the most valuable items you can acquire. Here is how to get Candy in Pokémon GO to evolve/power up your team of mons.

Contrary to popular opinion, it’s actually very easy to farm different types of Candy. The biggest challenge is getting the Candy that pertains to the specific Pokémon.
Types of Candy
There are various types of Candy you can acquire in Pokémon GO, and they include the following:
- Candy
- Candy XL
- Rare Candy
Candy is named after all individual Pokémon (e.g., Pikachu candy, Eevee candy). Candy XL is also named after all individual Pokémon (e.g., Pikachu Candy XL, Eevee Candy XL). Rare Candy is unique and can transform into any type of regular Candy you wish.
Each evolutionary line has its own unique Candy. This means you can spend Bulbasaur Candy to power up or evolve an Ivysaur.
How to Get Candy
Candy + Candy XL
You can acquire Candy / Candy XL of a certain type in the following ways:
- Catching
- Hatching
- Transferring
- Evolving
- Buddy Walking
- Trading
- Feeding berries while defending a gym (rare)
Catching
The amount of Candy you will be rewarded for catching a specific Pokémon depends on various factors. By feeding it a Pinap Berry before throwing a ball, you will double the Candy received.

Transferring
Transferring any individual Pokémon rewards 1x Candy of the respective type. For example, transferring a Pikachu rewards 1x Pikachu Candy.
Evolving
Evolving any individual Pokémon rewards 1x Candy of the respective type. For example, evolving a Pikachu rewards 1x Pikachu Candy. This is true even when you evolve with no Candy using a Trade Discount.
Buddy Walking
When you equip a specific Pokémon as a buddy, then start to walk it after it has been fed, you will slowly accumulate Candy for that Pokémon.
Feeding Gym Defending Pokémon
There is a very small chance you can acquire Candy for a specific Pokémon you are using to defend a Gym.
Trading
The amount of Candy you will be rewarded when trading Pokémon depends on the distance between the two in the trade.

Rare Candy
Rare Candy is the most valuable type of Candy in Pokémon GO and will allow you to easily increase any individual mon’s Combat Power (CP) as well as help evolve it.
The ratio of transforming a Rare Candy into a Candy of a specific Pokémon is 1:1. For example, you can spend 1x Rare Candy to acquire 1x Pikachu Candy.
You can farm Rare Candy through consecutive wins in the GO Battle League. On average, you can expect 3x Rare Candy after a 4-win streak.
