Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen (2004) are enhanced remakes of the original Red & Green games representing the first generation of mons from the Kanto region.
Gym 1 – Pewter City
- Leader: Brock
- Specialty: Rock
- Reward: Boulder Badge, TM39 (Rock Tomb)
There are no puzzles in this first gym, but you will need to face a single trainer before the fight with Brock, the gym leader.
As Brock specializes in Rock-type moves, avoid sending in Pokémon such as Charmander, Pidgeotto, or Beedrill.

Gym 2 – Cerulean City

Navigating Misty’s gym is as simple as walking a path around the pool. You have two trainers to fight on your way to the leader, but one of them can be skipped.
As Misty specializes in Water-type moves, avoid sending in Pokémon such as Charmander, Geodude, or even grass types like Bulbasaur.

After using Cut outside of battle to clear the blocked path, check all garbage cans inside the gym until you find the switches necessary to open the door.
As Lt. Surge specializes in Electric-type moves, avoid sending in Pokémon such as Squirtle, Pidgeotto, or Beedrill.

In Erika’s gym, you’ll have to use Cut to make your way through the gym, fighting your way through up to three trainers along the path.

To make it through Koga’s gym, you’ll need to navigate a maze filled with invisible walls. The trainers use various Pokemon, covering Psychic, Ground, and Poison types.
As Koga specializes in Poison-type moves, avoid sending in Pokémon such as Squirtle, Geodude, or Sandshrew.

Gym 6 – Saffron City

After defeating the members of Team Rocket, you can enter Sabrina’s gym. In this area, you’ll have to navigate through a bunch of warp walls. You can avoid certain trainers, but most have to be beaten before reaching all panels.
As Sabrina specializes in Psychic-type moves, avoid sending in Pokémon such as Hitmonchan or Koffing.

Gym 7 – Cinnabar Island

After locating the hidden key in the Cinnabar Mansion, you can enter Blaine’s gym. The various rooms have quiz machines that require an answer to a question. If you ignore it or get the answer wrong, you’ll battle a trainer to open the next door.
As Blaine specializes in Fire-type moves, avoid sending in Pokémon such as Bulbasaur or Beedrill.

Gym 8 – Viridian City

After collecting all previous badges in the Kanto region and finishing the quest in the Sevii Islands, you’ll face Giovanni. He’s the eighth and final Gym leader and Team Rocket’s Boss. You’ll have to navigate a maze filled with spinning tiles to get to him.
As Giovanni specializes in Ground-type moves, avoid sending in Pokémon such as Charizard or Pikachu.

Elite Four Bruno

Elite Four Agatha
While Agatha advertises as a Ghost-type trainer, Poison is the only element shared by her entire team. She will confuse, sleep, and poison your Pokemon to whittle them down.

Elite Four Lance
Lance will challenge your team more than the other members of the Elite Four with his legion of Dragon-type Pokemon. Each is equipped with Hyper Beam, quickly wiping out your party if you’re unprepared. Only Steel types will be able to resist his second-favorite move, Outrage.

Champion Green
Somehow your rival ran off and defeated the Elite Four before you even had the chance. His team is quite balanced and incorporates various types in addition to some devastating moves. The enemy party slightly changes depending on the starter you chose at the beginning of your journey.
