Starting September 6, annual subscription plans to PlayStation Plus services will cost more, with the Premium tier being $40 more expensive.
Sony said that the act of charging more allows the company to launch more “high-quality games and value-added benefits to your PlayStation Plus subscription service.”
New Prices (On/After September 6, 2023)
Here is a full breakdown of the changes, as PlayStation Plus is divided into three different price tiers:
- Essential (12-Month Subscription): 80 USD | 72 Euro | 60 GBP | 6,800 Yen

- Premium (12-Month Subscription): 160 USD | 152 Euro | 120 GBP | 13,900 Yen
Original Prices (Before September 6, 2023)
In case you’re curious as to how dramatic of an increase these price changes are, check out where things stood before they went into place:
- Essential (12-Month Subscription): 60 USD | 60 Euro | 50 GBP | 5,143 Yen
- Extra (12-Month Subscription): 100 USD | 100 Euro | 84 GBP | 8,600 Yen
- Premium (12-Month Subscription): 120 USD | 120 Euro | 100 GBP | 10,250 Yen
If you are an existing member, you will not see an increase in your subscription cost until November 6.
This isn’t the first time Sony has raised prices for online services. Believe it or not, there was a time when the general PlayStation Network was completely free to use. Then they wanted to cash in like Microsoft was using Xbox Live Gold.
It’s likely that PlayStation Plus is going up as a result of Xbox Game Pass going up.
