ATLUS has been cooking up some major projects for its beloved Persona franchise behind the scenes. Originally a spin-off of Shin Megami Tensei, itself an offshoot of the larger Megami Tensei franchise, Persona has grown past a cult classic and truly carved out its own identity. Recently, it was discovered that Persona 3 Reload and Persona 5 Tactica leaked on Xbox Cloud Game Pass.
Thanks to early trailers, we now know that Persona 3 Reload will release in early 2024 for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. Also, Persona 5 Tactica will release on November 17 on those platforms. Each of the two games will also be available on Xbox Game Pass at the time of launch.
Persona 3 Reload
After some 17 years, Persona 3 will finally be getting a dedicated remake in the form of Persona 3 Reload. Over time, the game has seen re-releases with extended editions such as Persona 3: FES (2007) and Persona 3 Portable. The trailer did not make it clear if Reload will include all features from prior versions, such as the epilogue from FES and the option to choose a female protagonist in Portable.
Persona 3 Reload, like the original, will tell its story from a third-person view with the ability to directly explore the main city. From the trailer, it appears more similar to Persona 5 in its social scenes and menus. However, the combat harkens back to Persona 3, where the party surrounds enemy shadows in 3D space.
Persona 5 Tactica
Persona 5 Tactica is a new spin-off for Persona 5, a game that many consider being the greatest modern JRPG in existence. In a similar fashion to the Persona Q games, Tactica has the cast appearing like Chibis. Yet, this game is a tactical RPG that plays much more like Fire Emblem. The trailer also shows off a new girl with purple hair fighting alongside the cast.
