Overwatch 2 is launching a new patch called Invasion in August that offers PvE story missions, a new PvP mode, and more. The upcoming content is being offered in tiered bundles, starting at $15.
Overwatch 2: Invasion will bring three story missions based in Gothenburg, Toronto, and Rio de Janeiro. According to Blizzard’s announcement, they will take place on “massive maps with complex objectives”, offering an “in-depth” narrative for fans. Players will take on new enemies, including the Stalkers and the Artillery.
The story missions will be available through the Overwatch 2: Invasion bundle, which will cost $15. Those who purchase will receive permanent access to these new missions, 1,000 Overwatch coins, a new legendary skin for Sojourn, and permanent access to Sojourn for new players.
Blizzard is also offering a premium version called the Overwatch 2: Ultimate Invasion bundle for $40. This includes all of the previously mentioned features in addition to the Null Sector premium battle pass with up to 20 skips, another 1,000 Overwatch coins, and two more legendary skins for Kiriko and Cassidy.
Many players feel at odds with these new announcements after it was confirmed that Overwatch 2’s core PvE Hero mode (aka the main reason for the sequel) was to be scrapped.
Beyond the new story missions, Overwatch 2: Invasion is introducing a co-op event taking place on King’s Row with new enemies and objectives. Furthermore, Blizzard is launching a new game mode for PvP, known as Flashpoint, with this update. It has players fighting to control key points on the map (flashpoints) before the enemy team does. The Flashpoint maps will be the largest the game has seen to date in terms of PvP.
Finally, Overwatch 2: Invasion will be including a Hero Mastery mode for players to fine-tune their skills. It lets players choose a hero from a limited “select” group and take them out to train on a course to learn new skills. Meanwhile, the Overwatch 2 practice range will be receiving its first major update with additional settings and a new firing range.
The official live stream event to kick-off Overwatch 2: Invasion will premiere June 21.
