Although Blizzard has been unable (or rather, unwilling) to follow up on all their promises regarding the original vision for Overwatch 2, the award-winning hero-based FPS, new statements from the developers have provided clarity regarding the story content coming to the game.
While the Hero mode in its entirety, which was supposed to be the big PvE content for the game, complete with talents and power progression, is being scrapped as we know it, story missions are still coming to the game.
Story missions are being designed as co-op PvE missions where players assume specific heroes to progress a narrative and fight waves of enemies. This is one part of the overall PvE mode that had cohesion good enough in Blizzard’s eyes to release.
Overwatch 2 will be receiving story missions as part of Season 6, currently slated for August. In addition, players can expect a single-player version with leaderboards, stories in-game and out-of-the-game, and other types of co-op content not yet shared by the team.
