Since its recent Steam launch, Overwatch 2 has been review bombed harder than any game in modern history. Currently, it has 100k remarks, of which over 90% are negative. It even got more negative feedback than War of the Three Kingdoms, which was the previous title holder at 89% bad reviews.
Although Overwatch 2 did not deliver on many of its promises, most especially a heavy emphasis on PvE content, it added many new heroes, and maps, and now has co-op story missions thanks to the Invasion update.
It’s important to take a step back and acknowledge that more than half of the reviews written for Overwatch 2 on Steam are written in Chinese.
On the surface, these reviews cover many of the pain points expressed by the rest of the global gaming community. However, it’s important to keep in mind that Blizzard and NetEase ended their contract to distribute Blizzard games in China, which resulted in the shutdown of Overwatch 2 and other titles in the developer’s library back in January.
Much of these negative reviews seem to be in retaliation against the fact that Chinese gamers, who have long been loyal Blizzard fans, have lost their accounts and the ability to play on national servers without any announcement of a way to recover their data.
