Overwatch 2 Releases October 4

After so long, Overwatch 2, the successor to the popular team-based shooter by Blizzard Entertainment, is releasing on October 4, 2022.

The devs claimed they wanted to redefine what a sequel means, but it’s more of an expansion to the original game than anything else.

Overwatch 2 is an answer to fans who wanted more of a focus on the PvE potential shown off by seasonal cooperative game modes in the original Overwatch.

Nevertheless, Blizzard has implemented plans to fully replace the original Overwatch with Overwatch 2. This will overwrite the classic game completely and make it unplayable, ending the 6v6 match format and eschewing the assault game type.

The philosophy behind this decision was to not alienate players between two different versions of the game and instead merge everything together and call it a sequel.

Fortunately, all unopened loot boxes, cosmetics, and unlocked skins from the original Overwatch will carry over. Even better, the game will feature support for play and progression across multiple platforms with the same account.

Moreover, Overwatch 2 will be a free-to-play game. An entire new currency will be established with Overwatch 2, meaning that old coins will not be able to purchase all the new items.

Strangely enough, there will be no rating reset for matchmaking with the release of Overwatch 2. For any fans hoping that the sequel would bring some kind of equalization, Blizzard seems to disagree.
