Takashi Yamazaki is set to direct the film. This moviemaker’s portfolio includes Lupin III: The First, Parasyte Part 1 and 2, and Dragon Quest: Your Story. This marks his first Godzilla film.
It also marks Toho’s latest entry in the long-running series since 2016’s Shin Godzilla, directed by Hideaki Anno, the creator of the popular anime Neon Genesis Evangelion.
Toho was the studio that originated and made the overwhelming majority of films in the Godzilla franchise. Some of the most popular entries include Godzilla (1954), Mothra vs. Godzilla (1964), and Ghidorah, The Three-Headed Monster (1964).
Conversely, if you so happen to be interested in American interpretations of kaiju films, Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. are working on a sequel to 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong. The follow-up sees Godzilla and King Kong banding together to take on “a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world.”
