In a recent presentation regarding company strategy, CD Projekt Red announced multiple new game projects in development for its popular franchises: Cyberpunk and The Witcher.
While details are currently thin, we now have confirmation that Cyberpunk 2077, the 2020 action role-playing game, will be getting a sequel. Currently, it is being developed under the codename “Project Orion.” However, the goal of the project will be to “prove the full power and potential of the Cyberpunk universe” upon release.
Furthermore, there will be a series of new games for The Witcher IP, which are currently in varying stages of development under numerous codenames. These include Project Polaris, Project Canis Majoris, and Project Sirius. Outside of its two famous brands, CD Projekt Red is also working on a brand new IP under the codename Project Hadar.
CD Projekt Red explained in the briefing that it has begun developing AAA games in parallel to one another and that it plans to foster a sustainable, healthy work environment.
As the franchises expand, the developer desires to have greater transparency, boost its overall capabilities, and focus more on multiplayer.
Project Canis Majoris
A new single-player open-world RPG with story-driven gameplay set in the universe of The Witcher. This title is currently in development by a third-party studio helmed by veterans of past entries.
Project Hadar
This is an all-new IP by CD Projekt Red, said to have been in “incubation” since 2021 and is only in the conceptual phase at the moment. It stands out from The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077 and is a 100% internal project.
Project Orion
This is a new open-world RPG with story-driven gameplay that uses The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt as a foundation.
More than 150 employees at CD Projekt Red are working on it. The game is said to be the beginning of a new trilogy of Witcher games delivered over the course of 6 years following the release of Polaris.
Project Polaris
The codename for the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, this new entry in the series will be arriving after the first game’s Phantom Liberty expansion, once again in development by CD Projekt Red.
A tweet by Pawel Sasko, Cyberpunk 2077’s Quest Director, claimed that the core team is moving to Boston to begin work on the sequel.
Expansion to Film and TV
Outside of its projects, CD Projekt has expressed interest in expanding to film and TV.
The live-action Witcher series starring Henry Cavill has been heavily praised, and the studio behind it recently confirmed the production of a third season.
In addition, the recent Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime series turned out to be a monumental success, reviving a passion for the world of Cyberpunk 2077.
