Just mere days after bypassing the injunction by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission for the acquisition of Activision Blizzard, Microsoft has successfully made a deal with Sony to keep the Call of Duty (COD) series on PlayStation going forward.
Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, made an announcement for the deal on Twitter in which he stated that both sides “have signed a binding agreement” to keep the world’s leading first-person shooter franchise on PlayStation consoles. He continued by saying “We look forward to a future where players globally have more choice to play their favorite games.”
This represents Microsoft’s ongoing commitment to keeping popular series on competing systems to level the ecosystem in a fair and friendly way. Just a few months ago, Microsoft made a similar 10-year agreement with Nintendo to keep COD on Switch.
The FTC attempted to appeal the deal trying to reject the Microsoft acquisition of Activision Blizzard, but it was rejected.
