Commander Shepard can swap in and out squad mates while aboard the SSV Normandy. Learn how to change the squad in Mass Effect 1.
While out on missions or simply exploring various worlds, Shepard is restricted to the party members selected after departing the Normandy. Therefore, in order to change squadmates, you simply need to head back to the ship.
Each time you get off board the Normandy to visit an area, you will be prompted to select up to 2 squadmates to accompany Shepard.

- Garrus Vakarian
- Kaiden Alenko
- Liara T’Soni
- Tali’Zorah nar Rayya
- Urdnot Wrex
Note: depending on certain critical story decisions Shepard makes throughout their journey in Mass Effect, squad mates may become available or unavailable.
