Tips & Tricks
Boost after Lakitu Retrieval
If you fall off a track or get stuck for several moments, Lakitu will arrive to place you correctly back on the track again. Just before you touch back down on the surface, hit the gas to get a small turbo boost.
Mushroom City Boosts
Among the traffic are vehicles that resemble Mushroom items. If you run into them, a Mushroom item is thrown off the back for you to collect and use to get a quick boost.
Pipe Plaza Glitch
On the Pipe Plaza map in Battle Mode, if you are hit by an opponent into the pipe and you pass through the pipe, you won’t lose a balloon. Rather, you will come out with stars around you.
Japanese Contest code
After completing a race in Time Trial mode and are prompted to Retry/Change Track/etc., press:
- L, R, L, R, X, Y, X, Y, Z
The code that appears was for a Japanese contest. While the contest is long over, the code itself was never removed from the game.
Mario Circuit Goomba Boosts
On Mario Circuit, if you hit a Goomba with a shell, it will squish into the ground with a boost flying off them. If a Thunderbolt is used, it squishes all Goombas and they will lay several boosts in the area.
Rainbow Road Falling Stars
There are tons of stars appearing as part of the design of Rainbow Road. Many of them fall, and some of them fall directly onto the track. When they fall, they turn into Star items. If you grab one, you will engage the power-up.
Shortcuts
Certain tracks allow you to take shortcuts to easily get ahead of competing racers. Your positioning and timing of taking these shortcuts are critical to success.
Bowser Castle
Where the Bowser Statue breathes fireballs, keep going straight to the opening. Begin drifting right and drive on the dirt path nearby.
Daisy Cruiser
After passing through the dining hall, ahead of the kitchen, fall through the pit and navigate through the tube.
Dino Dino Jungle
When you arrive at the first wooden bridge, make a slight right and you’ll discover a ramp. Also, when entering the cave, go right and use a Mushroom item to get over the bridge.
DK Mountain
After passing the boulders on the straightway, brake immediately where the pit is and turn right. Give yourself some room to accelerate and jump the gap.
Dry Dry Desert
Obtain a Mushroom item, then right after the 3 cacti, boost towards the quicksand pit. Near the end, do the same under the sign.
Peach Beach
When you arrive at the beach, turn left instead of right and jump to the other side.
Mushroom Bridge
After the first tunnel, take a right onto the dirt path (preferably using a Mushroom). Just before crossing the bridge, go onto one of the arches where you begin hitting speed areas.
Mushroom City
Take the purple path to the right side of the main road.
Waluigi Stadium
When you arrive at the second turn, prior to the boosted jump into the wheel of fire, take a right and drive on the path of dirt. Do this while power sliding or using a Mushroom item as a boost.
Wario Colosseum
When you reach the part where you need to pass around the pit, go in the middle and jump to land on speed areas.
Yoshi Circuit
After some initial turns, you’ll come across a small tunnel. Once you pass the second tunnel, you’ll find an opening on the guard rail. Obtain a Mushroom item and use it to fly across and land in a tunnel which brings you out at a U-turn.
