Like a Dragon: Yakuza is a live-action adaptation of the popular SEGA franchise of a similar name and is coming to Amazon Prime Video this fall.

After the incredible success of the Fallout show, Amazon is quickly trying to follow things up with an adaptation of the Yakuza franchise, a tale about the trials and tribulations of the Japanese mafia. The series, Like a Dragon: Yakuza, will be arriving on Prime Video globally on October 25, 2024.

A story told across six episodes, it will be released in two batches, with the first three dropping on October 25 and the remaining three dropping on November 1.

The show, like most of the video games it’s based on, will follow the main series protagonist Kazuma Kiryu, and his friends across the time periods of 1995 and 2005. This suggests an adaptation of the original game released for PlayStation 2, which was released in 2005 and followed Kiryu’s life after being let go from prison at the conclusion of a 10-year sentence.

Like a Dragon: Yakuza is described by Amazon as “an original crime-suspense-action series” that “follows the life, childhood friends, and repercussions of the decisions of Kazuma Kiryu, a fearsome and peerless Yakuza warrior with a strong sense of justice, duty, and humanity.”

Kazuma Kiryu is being portrayed by Ryoma Takeuchi (Kamen Rider Drive), with Masaharu Take (100 Yen Love) serving as series director.

Old-school fans will always remember that this is not the first time the Yakuza series has been adapted. Takashi Miike made an officially licensed film back in 2007.
