Before the blue blur returns to the cinema in December, his oldest rival, Knuckles the Echidna, will be starring in his own TV mini-series in April. The first trailer for Knuckles is here, and it features the mighty warrior voiced by Idris Elba.
The show is a spin-off of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022), the official film franchise for SEGA’s iconic mascot.
Debuting on April 26 on Paramount+, Knuckles is a six-episode series that follows the echidna as he gets accustomed to life on Earth. In his search for meaning and self-discovery, Knuckles agrees to train Deputy Sheriff Wade Whiple in the ways of the warrior.
Although fans can get excited for Dr. Robotnik’s return in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, with the role reprised by Jim Carrey, Knuckles will be dealing with his own adversaries and a sinister force that desires to harness his power for nefarious ends.
Several other familiar faces from the series will return in Knuckles, including Sonic the Hedgehog (Ben Schwartz), Tails (Colleen O’Shaughnessey), and Maddie Wachowski (Tika Sumpter) will make guest appearances. The rest of the cast includes Stockard Channing, Edi Patterson, Scott Mescudi, Ellie Taylor, Julian Barratt, Rory McCann, Cary Elwes, Christopher Lloyd, Paul Scheer, and Rob Huebel.
The Knuckles TV show represents just one of the projects in the works at Paramount to create a Sonic cinematic universe. New Knuckles content will also be arriving in Sonic x Shadow Generations, which is arriving later this year.
