According to a report by Variety, the actors who worked on Justice League (2017) under Zack Snyder will not be reprising their roles in future DCU projects. Although the article included some drama behind the scenes during the production of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, it mentions that Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, and Ray Fisher, will not return to their roles under James Gunn’s new DCU.
While they may not portray their original characters of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman, and Cyborg, it does not rule out that they could play other heroes/villains in the future. This has fueled many lingering rumors surrounding casting. For instance, the notion of Momoa taking on the role of Lobo. He could appear as early as Superman: Legacy in 2025, or simply move to his own film.
The report continues by confirming that certain other actors, such as Viola Davis and John Cena, will stay on to reprise their roles of Amanda Waller and Peacemaker, respectively.
As for the recasting, it has been confirmed that David Corenswet will be in the next Superman. While Batman is set to make an appearance in The Brave and the Bold, no actor has been announced yet. For now, there is no indication of when we will get to see new iterations of Aquaman, The Flash, Wonder Woman, or Cyborg.
Given that the SAG-AFTRA strike remains in effect, with talks set to resume on October 11, there is no opportunity for a new deal to be signed. James Gunn has suggested there may be announcements if the strike concludes, but this remains to be seen.
