Even after over 20 years, critics hail Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, a game released in 2002, for having some of the best, most satisfying lightsaber combat in the history of officially licensed Star Wars games. Today, a virtual reality (VR) mod of this same game allows you to wield a lightsaber and the Force as protagonist Kyle Katarn.

This mod is named JK-XR, a fan-made project meant to port the original Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast to VR in its entire capacity. That means a complete engine rework with an additional download on top of owning and installing the original game.

If you’d like to try it out, ensure you have the correct PC hardware requirements, then download it here. The demo is standalone with no extra download necessary, but if you want to play the whole experience, you must invest in a legal copy of the original, which isn’t hard to find.

Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast is the third game in a series of first-person shooters beginning with Dark Forces. However, unlike the preceding games, Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast offers a perfect mix of blaster and lightsaber combat, with stunning acrobatics and realistic disembowelment physics that satisfy even to this day
