Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (2019) is an open-world action-adventure game that introduces us to the lives of Force sensitives who managed to escape the Great Jedi Purge. In preparation for the release of the highly anticipated sequel, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor (2023), here’s everything you need to catch up on the story so far.
In 14 BBY, just five years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (2005), The Galactic Empire reigns victorious after Order 66. On the planet Bracca, former Jedi Padawan Cal Kestis lives in exile as a scrapper, salvaging ships from the Clone Wars era, and has cut himself off from the Force in order to remain hidden from Imperial confrontation.
Unfortunately, Cal’s friend Prauf gets caught in a dangerous situation, and by resorting to the Force to save him, an Imperial probe droid is able to track his trail. As a result, the Empire sends two members of the Inquisitorius, Darth Vader’s organization of exterminators, to investigate.
The Second Sister, one of the Inquisitors, murders Prauf for his defiance against the Empire. In spite of his efforts to save his friend, Cal manages to make an escape aboard the Stinger Mantis after being rescued by Cere Junda, a former Jedi Knight, and Greez Dritus, a pilot.
Cal is taken to a vault on the planet Bogano and befriends BD-1, a small droid who accompanies him on his travels. Eno Cordova, the former Jedi Master of Junda, created a Holocron of all Force-sensitive children in the galaxy and hid the work inside the vault, itself built by an ancient civilization called the Zeffo.
Placing responsibility upon himself to find a way to unlock the vault and use the Holocron to rebuild the fallen Jedi Order, Cal explores the galaxy to discover clues.
Throughout his journey to unlock the tombs of the Three Sages, leaders of the Zeffo who were incredibly strong in the Force, Cal continuously encounters the Second Sister. She eventually reveals herself as Trilla Suduri, the former Padawan of Cere Junda.
Trilla turned to the Dark Side after being left for dead by her former Master, who was tortured by the Empire during a brief capture. In response to failing her former apprentice, Junda cut herself off from the Force.
After freeing Wookie prisoners on Kashyyyk, encountering Tarrful and Saw Gerrera, and searching the planet Zeffo for clues, Cal discovers an Astrium artifact located on Dathomir is needed to open the vault.
Dark visions impede Cal’s progress, as he holds much guilt over his Master Jaro Topal’s death, who protected Cal when the Great Jedi Purge began. After damaging his lightsaber, Cal travels to Ilum to repair it.
On Dathomir, Cal faces Nightsister Merrin, whose people were slaughtered during the Clone Wars. Due to the actions of Taron Malicos, a former Jedi who traveled to Dathomir to seek power, Merrin places no trust in Cal. After defeating Malicos, Merrin becomes an ally of the team, and Cal retrieves the Astrium.
Upon returning to Bogono, Cal succeeds in unlocking the vault, but Trilla steals the Holocron. Junda reassumes the role of the Jedi and makes Cal a Knight before the team infiltrates the Fortress Inquisitorius on Nur, the oceanic moon of Mustafar, to recover the Holocron.
In a final confrontation, Cal defeats Trilla but refuses to kill her. Instead, Darth Vader suddenly arrives and force-chokes her to death. Faced with impossible odds, Cere and Cal escape with the Holocron after Merrin saves them from drowning.
Realizing that the Empire will forever hunt them down no matter where they go, Cal and the crew decide to destroy the Holocron to prevent the map from ever falling into the wrong hands.
