In this guide, we will show you exactly how you can play Honkai: Star Rail on the Steam Deck, despite it being a non-Steam game.
Honkai: Star Rail is the latest and greatest open-world RPG by developer HoYoverse, the same studio known for Genshin Impact.
Although one of the studio’s major games, Honkai Impact 3rd, was ported to Steam, neither Star Rail nor Genshin Impact was brought to Valve’s platform. Instead, these two games rely on their own launchers.
Can I play Honkai: Star Rail on Steam Deck?
Fortunately, there is a way to download, install, and launch Honkai: Star Rail on your Steam Deck by creating a shortcut on Steam. However, it will require you to install Windows on the device, and your Steam Deck will need more than 64GB of space.
Honkai: Star Rail was not designed for Linux systems, which is what SteamOS was created with. Even with Valve’s compatibility layer, you will need a full install of Windows 11 to bypass HoYoverse’s anti-cheat system.
The good news is that the Steam Deck was designed to allow for multiple operating systems. What’s more, you can keep everything you currently have on SteamOS and seamlessly boot into Windows 11, and vice versa.
