Destiny 2 – How to Unlock the Hoverboard Skimmer

destiny 2 how to get the hoverboard skimmer

The Skimmer is a new type of vehicle introduced in Destiny 2 that allows Guardians to use in place of their Sparrow. It is a hoverboard that can be ridden all across the galaxy. However, the first Skimmer, known as the Allstar Vector, is available for a limited time during the Guardian Games 2024 event, running from March 5-26. Fortunately, you can unlock the Allstar Vector permanently to ride around in time for the release of The Final Shape expansion.

In this guide, you will learn how to unlock the Exotic version of Allstar Vector, which allows permanent use.

How to Unlock the Allstar Vector Skimmer in Destiny 2

Before receiving the Exotic version of the Allstar Vector (which is permanent), you will first need to unlock the Common one.

First, complete the “Best in Class” tutorial quest for Guardian Games. This quest is picked up from Eva in the Tower and it will ask you to equip your special class item, perform a quick activity in Guardian Games, and then speak to several people.

Second, after completing “Best in Class”, pick up the second quest from Eva, called “Drop In.” As soon as you get this, you will receive the Common version of the Allstar Vector Skimmer. This Common version expires at the end of the Guardian Games event.

Now that you have the non-Exotic Allstar Vector Skimmer, you need to quickly finish “Drop In” to unlock the permanent version.

How to Permanently Unlock the Allstar Vector in Destiny 2

Once you receive the “Drop In” quest from Eva, you will need to complete one of three objectives to receive the permanent Exotic version of the Allstar Vector Skimmer. Here are the options:

  • Earn 1,200 Medallion Score
  • Earn a top 10% score in Nightfall challenges
  • Open 3 Focus Activity winners packages

Whichever way you decide to finish “Drop In”, the Skimmer automatically appears in your inventory upon completion. This Exotic version is a permanent acquisition, and you will have the Allstar Vector forever.

Medallion Score

The simplest way to complete “Drop In” is by achieving a 1,200 Medallion Score. However, it takes the longest time as you will need to earn and dump lots of medals into the podium.

Points awarded towards your Medallion Score are based on the quality of the medal you dump into the podium.

  • Bronze medals are worth 1 point.
  • Silver medals are worth 2 points.
  • Gold medals are worth 5 points.
  • Platinum medals are worth 15 points.

Top 10% Nightfall Score

The fastest yet most difficult way to get the Allstar Skimmer (Exotic) is by earning a top 10% score in Nightfall challenges. However, you will need endgame PvE friends to join your fireteam.

This may prove too difficult for some, but if you can complete the Nightfall as close to the weekly reset (Tuesdays at 12:00pm ET) as possible, you give yourself the best chance of a high score.

Open Focus Activity Chests

Focus Activity packages are bonus chests rewarded for completing the rotating “Focus Activity” for Guardian Games that change two hours during the week and three hours during the weekend. As you compete in the Focus Activity, you will earn bonus chests based on your performance, ranging from bronze to gold. These chests will be awarded just by spending time on the Focused Activity.

Are There Other Skimmers In Destiny 2?

Yes, Bungie released two Skimmers on March 5, alongside Guardian Games 2024. Only one of them (the Allstar Vector) is free. The other Skimmer, called the Winged Wolf, is exclusive to the Eververse Store.

The Winged Wolf is part of the Gjallarheart Gear set based on the iconic Gjallahorn rocket launcher. There are three new armor sets, specific to each of Destiny 2’s classes including Titan, Hunter, and Warlock. They cost 1,500 Silver each.

The Gjallahorn-like Ornament for the Thunderlord Exotic costs 700 Silver.

The Gjallaheart Gear Bundle costs 2,500 Silver and appears to be the only way players can get their hands on the Winged Wolf. In addition to the Eververse-exclusive Skimmer, it comes with a ship, Shader, and Ghost that are all based around the Gjallahorn.

Sadly, you will need to spend $29.99 to get 3,000 Silver + 300 Silver bonus in order to have enough Silver for the Gjallaheart Gear Bundle, as there is no option to purchase 2,500 Silver.

It remains unclear just how long the Gjallaheart Gear Bundle will remain in the shop or if the Winged Wolf will be available through Eververse after the Guardian Games 2024 event ends.

Destiny 2 is a first-person shooter developed by Bungie and initially released in 2017 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
