In this guide, you will learn the best strategies and tips for how to beat the Gerrringothe Thorm boss fight in Baldur’s Gate 3.
You can find this enemy while exploring the town to the north of Moonrise Towers. Gerringothe Thorm is an optional boss fight, and she will be wandering around the top of the Tollhouse.
How to Trigger or Skip the Fight
It is possible to end the encounter without combat, meaning you don’t actually have to fight the boss. However, it is important to make the decision whether to fight Gerringothe Thorm or not. Save your progress before attempting to start the encounter.
When you get within range of the boss, a cutscene triggers, and you will be requested to provide gold.
- Choice 1: If you refuse to provide Gerringothe with any type of gold, the fight will start.
- Choice 2: If you attempt to trick Gerringothe into paying you, the boss will automatically be defeated. This requires you to pass several Skill Checks.
Choice 2 requires you to provide Gerringothe with a single piece of gold, and then ask what you will get in return. She will likely reply with, “You may pass the river. But first you must pay.” Next, you need to lean on your Class Deception or Persuasion skills to convince her you are there to replace her as the Toll Collector.
How to Defeat Gerringothe Thorm
Using Stealth is the best approach for dealing with this encounter. Rather than face the boss directly, bring your team downstairs and have them start Sneaking.
Astarion is likely your best bet at handling this, depending on how your party is built.
Keep killing the floating skulls when they appear next to the boss, which will eventually allow you to knock off the Gold Armor, exposing Gerringothe.
Note that the creature hits for large amounts of damage, and has over 600 health. Maintain Stealth and plan the best way for the skulls to explode and destroy the Gold Armor on Gerringothe.
